PERLAH

Perlah is the solo project of Gustav Kemps, a multi-instrumentalist exploring quiet lo-fi, experimental folk, slowcore and drone.
Debut release Places was recorded mostly in Istanbul with some pieces in Berlin. Over the course of its ten songs, Places slowly reveals an introspective melancholy through sparse lo-fi dirges, dark drones and accomplished layered compositions.
Awake Somewhere is Perlah's second release albeit consisting of earlier pieces. Recorded in Berlin during the spring, inspiration was taken from rainy walks where sounds and field recordings were collected and later sculpted in Kemps' home studio. The resulting EP sees Kemps experimenting with layered rhythmic textures to accompany his guitar and hushed vocals.
Through both releases Perlah creates lots of empty space through sound rather than silence, but this is not bleak music. There is an intimate warmth to these compositions that warrants repeated listening.
