itdreamedtome
itdreamedtome is the project of experimental artist Johann Wlight.
Utilising sparse, lo-fi equipment itdreamedtome transmutes base sound sources such as field recordings, found sounds and tape samples into shimmering, iridescent long-form passages of sonic alchemy.
A quietly inspirational figure of the UK underground tape/CD-R scene during the late 1990's and 2000's, Johann Wlight's subtle and mysterious recordings first came to light through a series of obscure, beautifully hand-crafted CD-Rs mailed to friends and correspondents.
Drawing on disparate esoteric symbolism, Wlight would carefully plan his compositions on paper before arranging and submitting his recordings to tape or minidisc. The process and resulting sound is one he has described as 'karaoke deconstruction reco(r)dings'.
As acclaim for his work gathered, Johann Wlight releases appeared across numerous underground labels including Evelyn Records, Sijis, Larkfall and Matching Head. He later curated the excellent and sadly short-lived NidNod imprint during 2004.
In 2005 Wlight emerged from the underground with a track on the Digitalis Recordings compilation CD Gold Leaf Branches, the first under the guise 'itdreamedtome', offering a glimpse at an evolved sound. However this nascent project appeared short-lived, as Wlight then disappeared from view for over a decade.
In late 2017 he resurfaced with A.Y. on Trome. Housed in an assemblage box, complete with booklet, matchbox and iron pyrite, A.Y. presents three wraith-like, contemplative pieces that require close and repeated listening.
